mobileAgent 1.4.3 released - contact syncing, Expense VAT assignment

Hurray! Apple has approved mobileAgent 1.4.3 today!

New in this release:

  • Contacts can be synced (one way) to the iPhone contacts.

  • Expenses can now have various VAT levels set (auto, 0, 5, 15, 17.5, 20%, or manual money amount)

  • Cleaned up the login dialog so that it's more obvious what to do. Added online help to the login process.

  • UI cleanup

  • BUG: Date selector returned incorrect date/timezone. Now has correct timezone.

I've also updated the documentation on this site, mostly around how to setup mobileAgent for the first time:

Contact syncing

Your FreeAgent contacts can now be synced to your iPhone contacts. **The app err's on the side of caution, **and always creates a new contact entry unless it can identify a contact which is has created. So, if you have Bob Smith in your iPhone, and Bob Smith in FreeAgent, you'll now have 2 Bob Smith's on your phone. However, if you sync again in mobileAgent, the Bob Smith created by mobileAgent will be updated.

If you change the iPhone contact, the changes are not reflected (yet!) in mobileAgent or FreeAgent - it's one way for the moment (FreeAgent -> mobileAgent -> iPhone contacts).

Expenses with VAT assignment

When you create an expense, you can now select the amount of VAT contained in it. Previously, mobileAgent used FreeAgent's "auto" setting, which usually means 20%. In a lot of cases, this was wrong.

You can now select from a list of available VAT percentages (0%, 5%, 15%, 17.5%, 20%), select Auto and have FreeAgent work it out for you, or select Manual Entry and enter the exact amount of VAT thats on the receipt.

The rest of the dates are mostly cosmetic - a few buttons moved around, and some other UI clean up.

And in the past few releases, in case you missed them:

  • Add timeslip, expense, receipt and mileage are now modal, preventing accidental pressing of the tab buttons. They work pretty much like wizards do (for those of you old enough to remember when desktop software did wizards)

  • A single timeslip can now be replicated over a number of days, allowing for a weeks timeslips to be entered in one operation. As always, if you enter it wrong, you can use the Unsent Items list on the home page to remove any extras.

  • Speaking of Unsent Items, the list has been cleaned up a bit. Deleting is now explicitly allowed via the edit button – you could always swipe and delete, but this is more obvious, as not everyone knows how to do that!

  • UI clean up, notifications to the user when a potentially long running task is happening (eg when resizing a captured image).

  • General bug fixes. Not many, but enough.

  • Receipt capture (to Dropbox)

  • Expense capture (with photos)

  • And some minor bug fixes

v1.4.4 or 1.5 (depending on what I call it) is well on it's way, and is shaping up to be good - Contact and Project add/edit being the main feature. I have about half of it working already, so it shouldn't be long before it's out.

I hope you enjoy it - feel free to get in touch if you have any problems.
