With Evanescent, we believe in the privacy of the present moment. The application is designed to help you focus on your day without compromising your personal data. It operates on a strict local-first philosophy: your data belongs to you, it stays on your device, and we do not have access to it.

This Privacy Policy outlines how we handle your data, specifically regarding your Google Calendar and Apple Calendar information.

1. Data Accessed

To provide the core functionality of the app, Evanescent requests access to the following:

  • Google User Data (Google Calendar): The app access your Google Calendar events via the official Google API. We restrict this access specifically to the current day. We do not download or access historical data or future schedule data beyond the immediate requirements of the current day's view.
  • Device Calendar (Apple Calendar): With your permission, we access the local calendar data stored on your iOS device to display your schedule alongside your Google Calendar events. This is also restricted to the current day.

2. Data Usage

We use the data accessed solely to provide the application's features. Specifically:

  • Display: We use your calendar data to generate a visual timeline of your current day within the app interface.
  • Notifications: We use the time and title of your events to trigger local notifications on your device, reminding you when tasks or events are due.
  • On-Device Processing: All processing of your calendar data happens locally on your iPhone. We do not send your calendar events to any external server for analysis, AI training, or tracking.

3. Data Sharing

We do not share your data.

  • No Third-Party Sharing: We do not transfer, sell, lease, or share your Google User Data or Device Calendar data with any third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.
  • No Server Transmission: Since Evanescent does not utilize a backend server to process your calendar events, your event details never leave your device in the context of our application's operation.

4. Data Storage & Protection

We utilize industry-standard security mechanisms provided by iOS to protect your information:

  • Volatile Memory: Your actual calendar event data (titles, times, locations) are held in your device's volatile memory (RAM) only while the app is running. We do not create a persistent database of your schedule within the app's file system.
  • Secure Authentication: To maintain a connection to Google Calendar without requiring you to log in every time, we store your authentication tokens (OAuth tokens) securely. These are stored in the iOS Keychain, which is the highest standard for secure, encrypted storage on Apple devices.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Because Evanescent operates without a backend server, our data retention policy is simple:

  • Retention: Data is retained only as long as the app is installed on your device and authorized to access your accounts.
  • Deletion: You do not need to request data deletion from us, because we do not possess your data. To delete your data:
    1. Uninstall the App: Deleting the Evanescent app from your iPhone instantly removes all locally stored tokens and cached data associated with the app.
    2. Revoke Permissions: You can revoke Evanescent's access to your Google Account at any time via your Google Account Security settings.

6. Limited Use Disclosure

Evanescent's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
