End of the holiday, back to reality

Sunset at Cape Disappointment

Today is the last day of our "holiday" - our trip back to New Zealand from the UK. It's take us almost 2 months to get here, and it's been a crazy amount of fun. Along the way, we have been to three countries, walked about 60km (and about 5km vertically), driven around 3500 miles, and eaten not nearly enough delicious Mexican food[1].

The trip has taken us from London to Italy, San Francisco and Hopland for The Do Lectures, Vancouver to see David and Cynthia, and then all over the west coast from Seattle to LA and back.

Despite the best efforts of the US Government to close everything, we managed to see some brilliant places. Some pictorial highlights:

The serenity of Crater Lake National Park

For me, the best bits were in the RV, in some of the remote beach State Parks. All the National Parks were closed, so we had to route around that - and that ended up being good, as we took our time driving down the coast enjoying the sights, weather, food and wine the Washington, Oregon and California have to offer. I definitely preferred the northern end of that tho - Oregon, especially, is amazing. We could have spent all 25 days there and not been wow'ed every day.

And Oregon has great coffee shacks all over the place. What's not to love?

This afternoon, it's back to NZ from LA, and back to "reality" - ie, looking for work, doing Gone Mobile [2], a permanent house to live in, and a car. All the things we've not needed for the last 6 years in the UK.

If you happen to be looking for a Xamarin-focused mobile developer, drop me an email - NZ is nicely placed for remote work with the west coast of the US.

  1. No shortage of great food tho. But I'd eat Mexican every day if I could. ↩︎

  2. If they will still have me! :) ↩︎
